Jewish Book Club

18 Sep @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

The Jewish Book Club (merged with the Hadassah Book Club) generally meets on the 3rd Sunday of each month, unless there is a holiday on that date. All are welcome. Join us even if you haven’t read the book.

The Jewish Book Club will meet in person and on Zoomat the Jefferson Campus (9111 Jefferson Highway) at 2:00 p.m.  The group will discuss The English Teacher, an espionage thriller written by Yiftach Reicher Atir, a former officer in the Israeli Defense Forces.  The novel follows undercover operative Rachel Goldschmitt, who suddenly disappears.  Since Rachel had been working undercover as an English teacher in an Arab town, she knows things that could damage Israel.  Drawing on some of his own experiences, the author takes the reader in a “behind-the-scenes” look at the lonely life of a spy.

In October, the group will discuss Snow in August, by Pete Hamill.  Set in the 1940, the novel focuses on a young Catholic boy who befriends a rabbi from Prague.  Both learn from their unlikely friendship in a neighborhood where antisemitism is on the rise.  The October gathering will be on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.
